Engagements

Three models, one choice in writing before we start.

Some work deserves a fixed price, some needs the hour, and ongoing work fits a monthly amount. We recommend, you decide.

Fixed fee

Defined scope, one price

A written quote for the whole engagement, agreed before work begins. It changes only if the scope changes, and you approve any change first.

  • Annual tax returns, individual and business
  • Entity formation packages
  • Compilations and reviews

Best for: work you can describe in a sentence.

Hourly

Pay for the time it takes

Billed in tenth of an hour increments against a written rate schedule, with time detail attached to every invoice and a cap or deposit when you want one.

  • IRS and State notices, audits, and resolution
  • Consulting, cross border questions, second opinions
  • Cleanup of prior years and messy books

Best for: open ended matters where the scope is the unknown.

Monthly

Ongoing, one predictable amount

Bookkeeping, payroll, quarterly estimates, and the year end return bundled into one monthly amount, reviewed annually as the business grows.

  • Monthly close and reconciled accounts
  • Payroll and sales tax filings
  • Advisory check in and the year end return

Best for: businesses that want an accounting department without hiring one.

Questions

Before you reach out.

Fixed fee or hourly, who decides?

You do, with our recommendation. After the consultation we tell you which model fits and why, and put it in the engagement letter. If a matter starts hourly and the scope becomes clear, we can convert it to a fixed fee.

Do I have to come to the office?

No. Most clients never do. Documents go through the portal, meetings happen by phone or video, and signatures are electronic. The office is there when you prefer to meet in person.

I live in Windsor and work in Michigan. Can you handle both sides?

Yes. We coordinate the United States filing with your Canadian return, apply the treaty where it helps, and make sure withholding and credits line up so you are not taxed twice.

Can you switch me from my current accountant mid year?

Yes. We request the prior year returns and the accounting file with your authorization, review them, and tell you honestly whether anything needs to be fixed before we move forward.

Is Fairmount a law firm?

No. Fairmount CPA & Advisory, LLC provides accounting, tax, and advisory services only. It does not provide legal services. If your matter needs a lawyer we will say so.
